How to use ski reviews (back)
We understand that skiers sometimes cannot test skis before buying and must rely on reviews to decide what to buy.
Nevertheless, we urge everyone to try skis before slapping leather if at all possible; even carefully researched reviews cannot substitute for personal experience, although they are better than nothing.
Ideally, reviews are used as tools to reduce the bewildering number of choices to a manageable number of models for personal testing.
Trying a few skis, perhaps two models in two different sizes, is the best way to be certain of finding the perfect choice. We are often amazed that some people buy skis costing $1000 or more without first skiing them, but spend hours trying on running or hiking shoes costing as little as $50. If at all possible, try before you buy—it is the only sure-fire way to get the right ski.
If demo is out of the question for whatever reason, we urge you to take advantage of the 1200+ comprehensive 12-Point Reviews on our subscription site—it might help avoid making a costly mistake or even help find the perfect ski at huge savings on eBay or at a sale or swap.
